I know why most of you are here… to find out if it’s actually true. Can dentists actually tell if you have either been putting something too deep into your throat?

Cian McBrien, a 21-year-old TikToker with other 160,000 followers uncovered the secret in a viral video.

“It was a little fact I came across, and on TikTok you’ve got to grab their attention quickly. During a time when people were going out and doing whatever they want. I decided to give them a little scare.

“Obviously, I just put it out there and said dentists can actually tell if you have given oral sex. Once that got uploaded they said I’m never doing this again before my dentist appointment.”

One user in the comments said: ‘So that’s why my dentist was so quiet-‘, and another responded ‘What does the brain emoji mean?’

In the video, Cian could not type out oral sex or head, as TikTok’s community guidelines would’ve removed the video. He instead used a brain emoji.

“There are a lot of different terms for giving oral sex, but the brain emoji is a term for giving brain or giving head,” Cian said.

“If you went onto urban dictionary and googled giving brain it would give you a clear explanation of what it is. Just please don’t click on any dodgy sites if you’re going to google giving brain.”

Cian’s video received over 5m views to the song Somebody to Love by Basstrologe. On TikTok, there’s something called a stitching feature which allows users to take a section of another creator’s video and react to it. One stitch of the video received over 50.2m views by the user known on the platform as ‘Dentite’.

Dentite, or as he’s legally known Huzefa, is a practising dentist who has been in the industry for 20 years. He also posts dental content on TikTok and has 1.2m followers. We asked him… IS IT TRUE?!

“Yes, it’s true. Typically, we can tell if you’ve had you know… ye… If there’s bruising on that pallet, then we can see that.

“You learn this in dental school. People are really shocked by it. It’s not something they spend a lot of time on. When you hear about it as a student you’re shocked too, like can that really happen?

“They teach you this, not to observe other women’s or guys’ pallets, but it’s something we should be aware of in case a kid or an underage individual is getting abused.

“You can’t jump to a conclusion right away; you can look for other signs. If they’re emotionally distressed or things of that nature. If they’re really withdrawn. You can pick up on kids’ behaviours, especially if it’s not normal behaviour.”

At least now you know the real reason dentists are looking for this, and they are actually not judging you on what you got up to at the weekend…

“Usually, it’ll last a couple of weeks then it’ll go away. Even to this day I still get plenty of messages about it and it makes me laugh. In two weeks if it’s not going away, I tell them to see their primary care doctor to get an evaluation. As a dentist, we can’t really check for STDs.

“The general reaction is they’re worried their dentist will say something or tell their parents. Believe it or not, we’re not really looking for that, mainly we’re looking for a lump on a cheek or a white lesion that’s not going away. You’re looking for other things like oral cancer, and things of that nature.

“With social media, things spread a lot faster. 20 years ago, when I was in dental school, we didn’t have TikTok or we didn’t have social media to the degree we have now. Facts spread so much faster now.

“When you look at dental TikTok, you’ll be fascinated, lots of things come out that you’ll be shocked about…”
