Although I consider myself to be an astrology sceptic, I can’t help but find it intriguing how certain individuals consciously steer clear of particular people, or signs, fearing a mismatch in star sign compatibility when it comes to dating.
It feels like every time I open TikTok, there are always a few star sign compatibility videos that pop up on my For You page and they all seem to be drawing lots of attention.
And It never ceases to amaze me how often I’ve been approached by both men and women, with the burning question “What’s your sign?”. It’s an intriguing phenomenon that continues to pique my curiosity.
I am an aquarius, and despite my scepticism, I still believe it is the superior star sign – And I would be lying if I said I haven’t done some research regarding my own horoscope and dating fates.
Emily Eriksen, 23, is one person who holds a deep fascination for astrology. She herself is a Taurus, and proudly shares her experience of dating men of almost all the different star signs, except for an Aquarius (a missed opportunity) and a Leo. Interestingly, she is still out on the lookout for her perfect star sign match, which could explain why she has never dated an Aquarius.
“They say a Taurus can be quite stubborn. They know what they want and how they want it. Which I feel is a very spot on description of me, especially in terms of dating.
“I have been told by my friends that I’m ‘too picky’, but the truth is I just know what I want and so far I just haven’t been lucky enough to find my perfect match.”
She tells me that before she goes on a date with a guy, she always asks what his star sign is.
“It’s just to get an idea of what to expect from the date. That being said, I always go in with an open mind.
“But I guess you could say that I let astrology navigate my dating life.”
So let’s delve into Emily’s own dating experiences with the different star signs, starting off with the best to worst:
Cancer:
“I think out of all the men I have dated, this one was the most loving. Not only that, but he seemed to be taking really good care of himself and the people around him. He was genuinely just a lovely and sweet guy and I think if it hadn’t been for a busy work schedule it could have turned into something more.
“He would also always pay for the food and drinks, despite me almost having to beg him to let me pay. Just an overall gentleman, 10/10.”
Capricorn and Virgo:
“I can’t choose between the two, in which to put second, so I have to put them together. I have dated one Capricorns and one Virgo, and they were honestly the best dates I have ever been on. Both guys were so caring when speaking about their families and were extremely loving which is something that I look for in a man.
“They also seemed incredibly passionate about their future plans and studies which I find very attractive.
“However, it didn’t work out with either of them due to one of them moving to Barcelona after the summer we first started dating and the other one was moving for university.”
Sagittarius:
“I have dated two Sagittarius men and I had my doubts going into it because I had heard that Taurus and Sagittarius do not get on well in terms of compatibility. However, they were both lovely but the vibe just ended up being friendly after a couple of dates with each of them. I will say that they were both adventurous and have a very energetic lifestyle which doesn’t suit me.”
“I will admit I’m very surprised I put them so high up on the list, but the dates were so much fun and I guess that shows that some parts of astrology you have to take with a grain of salt.”
Pisces:
“This guy was probably the most out-going person I have ever met in my entire life. He was also a very artistic guy which I found extremely attractive, which is probably why I ended up going on 4 dates with him in total.
“Overall, he was a lovely guy who sought deep connections but for some reason I just didn’t feel it after a while and I unfortunately had to end things with him.”
Libra:
“Again, a guy who was very passionate about his goals and had more or less already set out a plan on how he envisioned his life to be. I think after a while it became a bit overwhelming, as I am not someone who is ready to settle down nor feel pressured to.”
“That being said, he was a very witty guy and probably one of the best looking men I have ever seen in my life.”
Scorpio:
“I have only been on one date with a Scorpio guy, and it was a nice one. However, I think we both noticed pretty early on that it was just a friendly vibe between us, so we ended up just chatting with a couple of pints before going our separate ways.
“I don’t really have much to say about him, considering I only met him once. But he seemed to be a very private guy and a much more shy and quiet type.”
Capricorn:
“I went on a few dates with this Capricorn guy, and I thought for a moment that there could potentially be something there. But during the last two dates, I found him to be a bit overly serious and a bit ‘too much’.
“He also made some unnecessary comments here and there, like he would point out how much makeup I was wearing and that my top was rather ‘revealing’.”
Gemini:
“Ahh bless him, but this guy was just too much. I thought he was joking at first when he talked about us going on a holiday during our second date until he turned his phone around and the booking was just a simple click away.
“Even after the first date I knew we wouldn’t be a good match but I ended up going on a second to pastime.”
Emily tells me the hunt for her perfect star sign match is not over yet and she encourages readers to “take a risk” even if the astrologers may advise you not to.
